| Project Type: Database & Database Publishing Client: Quincy Jones Project Description: Relational database system for managing performances, sheet music, artists and instrumentation. Background: Quincy Jones is a famous musician and producer. Often, when Quincy Jones performs, a recording is often made of each song. Over a period of years thousands of these recordings were given to a copyist. The copyist listens to the recordings and makes a written documentation of the music, breaking out each instruments part. In addition the copyist also noted the performance date, location, song title, musicians list, instruments list and other notes regarding the variations of the actual performance. The copyist's notes for every song's performance were stored inside of large envelopes that also contain the actual music for each instrument's part. Thousands of the envelopes existed in storage. Project Goals: The goal was to have the information on the envelopes placed into a database that would print out a cover sheet and would also become a searchable archive of performances, participating musicians, instrumentation and the dates, times, locations and notes. TooBaRoo's Solution: TooBaRoo created an integrated database system that: (1) produced the one page report for summarizing the performances; (2) created a searchable archive of the artists prior live performances; and (3) allowed the copyist to enter data more efficiently by creating templates containing different orchestra combinations. |
